Shealeen Stabelfeldt, M.Ed., BCBA, Owner
I am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who has been working independently and consulting with schools since 2011. I started my career in 1998 in Massachusetts as a special educator. I have been licensed as an educator in Washington, Wisconsin and Massachusetts. I started my education in speech/language pathology and continue to use that knowledge to help children communicate effectively. I have a vast array of experiences working in residential, collaborative, public & private schools with children with Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, communication disorders, and behavioral challenges. I was adopted as a young child and especially enjoy working with children who were also adopted. My specialties include: parent educations classes, staff trainings, discrete trial training, independent activity schedules, PECS, direct instruction, video modeling, behavioral and academic assessments, social stories, task analysis, errorless learning, contingent and non-contingent reinforcement, eating difficulties, sleep routines, potty training, safety awareness, token economy, preference assessments, antecedent management, functional communication training, discrimination training, and incidental teaching.
What is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)?
* A BCBA can observe, track behaviors and gather information using direct and indirect assessments to determine the function of the behavior(s) and then created a step-by-step behavior plan with specific interventions to help your child in school or at home. Other assessments specific to children with Autism or other language and learning difficulties can be used to help create baseline data for academics, learner readiness, social and play skills, fine and gross motor, communication, and daily life skills. (see SERVICES/assessments page for more info)
* A BCBA can consult with schools to complete FBA’s and BIP’s for them, train staff, attend IEP meeting to interpret results of assessments and help plan for your child’s future. Sometimes it seems like your child is not making any or very little progress. By helping the school create a plan for your child using ABA progress can be achieved. And when progress stalls we can look at the environment to see what needs to be changed to continue progressing. It’s us as adults that can make these changes-whether it be with our own behavior directly before the behavior occurs or how we respond to the behavior after it has occurred…or both! Progress is always possible! (see SERVICES/consultations page for more info)
*A BCBA can provide behavioral and educational classes to parents, schools and the community. With the ever increasing number of children with behavioral challenges, whether it’s diagnosed or not, it’s our responsibility to teach others what we know. (see SERVICES/workshops page for more info)
*A BCBA can provide services in your home. Services in home typically involve a number of programs to increase progress in academic, communication, and daily life skills. Usually social skills and learner readiness skills are taught and mastered in the home and then generalization of these skills can be taught in school or the community. (see SERVICES/In-Home page for more info)
It is my privilege to be the person you choose to work with for the benefit of your child and family. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule an initial intake meeting. I look forward to speaking with you.
